What solutions to create your own cloud

The cloud is now a common word in the IT world. Cloud is a term for offsite infrastructure hosting.

Internet connections having evolved into very high speed (fiber) many companies have taken the plunge to migrate their infrastructure physical to data centers.

However, behind the cloud there are different approaches, it is not just a simple data storage and synchronization as offered by Dropbox!

OVH the French Cloud

The French company OVH offers this cloud definition in summary OVH offers a lot of services. You can buy a dedicated physical server hosted in their infrastructure (Bare Metal) or a virtual server (VPS).

But the French unicorn does not stop there since it can also offer you Exchange messaging solutions.

With a public cloud solution, you pay only for the resources you need. To access your resources, an internet connection is sufficient. One of the advantages of the Public Cloud is that the equipment is under surveillance. In the event of equipment failure or other incidents, a team of experts intervenes directly.

OVH is therefore a major player which offers different solutions at the best market prices (messaging, data hosting, websites).

To create your own secure hosting service you can subscribe to a server offer then install afree application like NextCloud.

The data will be hosted on a server from the OVH datacenter.

Data in the cloud

At first glance when we talk about Cloud we think especially of data storage solutions or Icloud pictures

We see above all a means of synchronize your data with a simple account. You put the files from your computer in a directory and they are synchronized on a server.

Please note that the Cloud and synchronization does not constitute a means of backup! If your data on the computer is corrupted or encrypted it will also be in the cloud.

Among the file synchronization solutions we can mention DropBox, Google Drive or One Drive from Microsoft 365.

The different visions of the Cloud

So there are two ways of looking at the cloud, create your own cloud with multiple use (applications, Saas, files) or rely on turnkey solutions.

An IT service provider can rent a server from OVH and develop his application there, to access it you have several possible solutions.

In SaaS (from a web link), this is generally the most used case.

In Remote Desktop or Remote APP: This configuration is more complex then that it requires setting up a secure link within the various infrastructures.

In 2022 there is no doubt that many will take the plunge, many structures move their data servers to Cloud solutions to consume less energy, to be accessible anywhere and at any time, but also to no longer have to manage updates and patches.

The health crisis has also turned the plans of many companies upside down by focusing more on teleworking and access to data from outside.
