Microsoft Edge, or more recently Chromium Edge, is a relatively new web browser developed by Microsoft on the Chromium platform (Google Chrome). Microsoft Edge replaces Internet Explorer and is included in Windows 10 by default as well as Windows 11. Microsoft Edge is also available for download on iOS and Android smartphones.
The only way to get access to Microsoft’s latest browser is to upgrade from Windows 7 or Windows 8 to the latest version of Windows. Microsoft Edge is not available on earlier versions of Windows.
Overall, Microsoft Edge is a very good web browser, much better than its predecessor Internet Explorer. Microsoft Edge is fast, easy to use, and lightweight on the operating system. Most people choose to use Microsoft Edge, others choose to replace Microsoft Edge with another Internet browser, such as Google Chrome or Firefox.
Uninstalling Microsoft Edge seems like a good solution if you choose to use a different Internet browser. Why should Microsoft Edge remain available and take up disk space, if you are not already using Microsoft Edge?
The problem is that some apps like Windows Mail continue to use Microsoft Edge to open a hyperlink when you open it in a received email.
Microsoft Edge is a standard component of Windows. If you uninstall Microsoft Edge, problems may occur. It’s your choice to remove Microsoft Edge from Windows.

Chromium Edge is the latest version of the Edge browser. You do not need a special script for this, you can remove this Edge browser with the steps below.
If you are unable to remove Chromium Edge using the settings described in this chapter, then you will find another chapter with another way to remove Edge anyway.
Are you looking for an instruction to remove the old Microsoft Edge? This instruction can be found at the bottom of this article.
Let’s start by removing Edge from Windows 10 or Windows 11. These Edge removal steps look different in Windows 11 but work in the same way. Windows 11 has a different appearance.
Click the start button. Click on the gear icon in the menu on the left and open the Settings.
Search for Chromium Edge, click on it, and select Delete.
If you can not delete Edge because it was installed by Windows Update, open the Windows Explorer. Goes to:
C:Program Files (x86)MicrosoftEdgeApplication
Click through in the folder of the Microsoft Edge version number, then click through in the folder Install.
Important: Copy the path in the Windows Explorer address bar.
Open a Command Prompt in the Windows search bar. Type in the search bar: cmd.exe. You will then receive the Command Prompt result. On the right side, click Run as Administrator.
Paste the location where Edge is installed in the Command Prompt window, type:
cd "C:Program Files (x86)MicrosoftEdgeApplication83.0.478.58Installer"
Make sure you have copied the path to the “Installer” folder as indicated earlier in this instruction. The version number I have red & fat have printed can therefore deviate!
In the Command Prompt window, copy and paste or type:
setup.exe --uninstall --msedge --system-level
Click Delete and Microsoft Edge is deleted.
Uninstall Microsoft Edge with Win10BloatRemover (application)
Win10BloatRemover is an application that provides some tools to remove certain Microsoft components. One of those components is Microsoft Edge, both the old Microsoft Edge and the new Chromium Edge.
It is important to know that I do not manage this application and therefore can not provide support for it. Click for Learn more about Win10bloatRemover. This app also works on Windows 11.
Extract the ZIP file and open Win10BloatRemover.exe. If the app is open, select option 2 to uninstall Microsoft Edge.

If this does not work then you can do the following to remove Edge anyway. Download the free version of Geeks Uninstaller. Open the Geek.exe application.
