Pathé Home and Chromecast are fine to use together. With the Chromecast function you can send the image from your smartphone to your TV. In this article you can read what you need for this and how to establish the connection.
Is it possible to stream Pathé to Chromecast at home? The short answer is: yes, you can let Pathé Thuis and Chromecast work together to stream content to your TV. You do this by pressing the Chromecast icon in the video player. If it doesn’t work, we have a number of solutions in this article for if the icon does not appear, for example.
With the Pathé Thuis application you can watch all kinds of films that were recently in the cinema at home. You do not have to take out a subscription for this and only pay for the films you rent. You will also find films that were not in the cinema, as well as some classics.
Pathé Thuis and Chromecast: what you need
If you want to stream a film or series via Pathé Thuis to your television from your smartphone or tablet, you naturally need a number of things. Think of a separate Chromecast (one of the modern variants) or a television with the Chromecast function built in.
The smartphone or tablet must also have at least Android 5.0 or higher. A iPhone must have at least iOS 8. If that is all the case, you can download the app from the well-known download stores: Google Play Store for Android and the App Store for iOS.
Once you meet all the requirements, it’s time to connect the Pathé Thuis app to the Chromecast model you’re using (or the television or media player with Chromecast built-in). The most important thing is that you properly install the Chromecast on the correct Wi-Fi network.

If this is your first time using the Chromecast, you have installed it in a few steps. You plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI port of your TV, switch to the correct channel and simply follow the steps on the screen. Don’t forget to download the Google Home app in advance.
When the Chromecast and the app are installed and both devices (the smartphone or tablet containing the Pathé Thuis app) are on the same network, they can find each other. First select the content you want to watch and then click on the Chromecast icon on the screen.
Install, update and open the Pathé Thuis app
Choose the content you want to stream
Search, buy or rent a film you would like to stream in the Pathé Thuis app
Start the stream and find the Chromecast icon
Find the Chromecast icon in the Pathé Thuis app and press it
Then choose the right Chromecast and start streaming
It can be that simple: select Chromecast and the movie will appear on the big screen
Pathé Thuis and Chromecast: any problems
You may run into problems. Then think of jerky or frozen images. Fortunately, you can do something about that. You again need the aforementioned Google Home for this. Open the app and locate the Chromecast that is now having the issues.
- We now want to activate the 50Hz mode to solve the problems.
- Open the Chromecast and tap the menu at the top right.
- Now go to Video settings and set Use HDMI mode for 50 Hz to ‘on’.
It is also possible that there is no Cast icon on the screen. In short, you can do the following:
- Check whether your smartphone or tablet is connected to the same WiFi network as the Chromecast.
- Restart all devices once.
- Update Google Home.
You can check whether the free Google Home app needs an update via the App Store or Google Play Store. You do that by looking up the app via the search bar and seeing if the app page reports a required update.
