Airtable, which is modular on Microsoft Excel, quickly collects awards and climbs the popularity charts. Notion and Coda’s unique approach to modular productivity has been successful in attracting early adopters and consumers.

Notion and Coda both allow you to use a variety of templates and keyboard shortcuts. The goal is to organize and manage a note/page with add-ons and come up with a solution based on your needs.

You can create notes, create a wiki, plan upcoming travel, and more. But more importantly, it allows you to replace existing task and project management apps like Trello and Asana with built-in templates designed for such requirements.

In this post, I will compare Notion and Coda based on task and project management, user interface, pricing, availability, and more.

Availability across platforms

Notion is available on iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, and Web. To provide a seamless experience across platforms, the company uses the same user interface on mobile, PC, and the web.

My only pain is the Notion mobile apps. Rather than being original, they are essentially web covers.

Coda is available on the web, iOS, and Android.

While both apps can be accessed on mobile platforms, the experience is best served on the web.

user interface

Coda itself is a powerful tool with each section working as a dedicated application on mobile platforms. Here, we will focus on the web version.

By default, the interface displays documents created by users. The left menu gives you access to starred notes, shared notes, templates, and more.

You can start writing a regular note or add a schedule, copy a document file, add a calendar planner, and use the included templates from the list below.

Notion looks like a wide white canvas. You can add templates to it and start organizing things.

The main options such as pages and subsections are on the left. The thing about Notion is that it will not throw all the details on the user. Editing options are available by simply using the “/” command.

Of course, you should memorize the most useful Notion commands to get the most out of them.

Task Management

Notion and Coda both provide functionality for making to-do lists. This can be a good alternative to existing solutions like Todoist or TickTick.

You will have to use templates to get started. Coda has many task templates, and you can choose one according to your requirements.

In the example below, I’ve added multiple tasks based on priority, due date, and time.

You can also add new columns with date, comment, buttons, etc.

I have automatic daily triggers that push a notification with a message saying “Check out today’s assignments” At 9 am.

Tap on the little bot icon in the upper left corner and set the rules with if that’s a possibility. It is similar to IFTTT.

Notion’s weekly agenda template is my favorite and I humbly recommend it to everyone.

You can give it a relevant name and add a cover photo and icon to get started. Now, add tasks below the days of the week, and as a bonus, you can integrate reminder notifications as well.

write “/ reminder” And add the date and time to get a notification on your mobile phone or PC. Unlike Coda, the interface looks the same on mobile as on PC.

project management

Notion and Coda target custom project management solutions such as Trello, Asana, and Jira using built-in templates.

I chose a kanban style template from the Coda community, and it works great with different table views.

The default style is a bit like the one in Trello. You can move/rename tabs, move them from one tab to another, assign tasks to team members, and change status based on the task.

One can even add images related to a particular task. I use it to tackle persistent issues/errors in any project.

For a project that involves testing a software development, I can do a lot of action. For starters, I’m adding the known issues with some details, assigning them to relevant team members, merging the status button, and adding images to show the bugs.

Notion offers many project management tools, but Roadmap is my favorite. To me, the Roadmap model is like Trello on steroids.

You can track ongoing projects, add issues, integrate tags, share them with a team member, and more. Not only that, but you can also click on the tab and see all the details about it.

You can add as many appropriate table contents as you wish. Next, you need to combine the tags and the button to get the most out of the template.

Pricing

As of now, Coda is free of cost. The company plans to introduce a pricing model in the future. Notion offers two types of subscription. For personal use, you can choose the $4 per month plan or go with a team plan that costs $8 per month per member.

Choose one wisely

The comparison of Coda and Notion clearly highlights their two salient features. Both apps offer compelling capabilities for managing projects and tasks with the help of templates. However, they both differ when it comes to implementation. Coda turns every document and its sections into a custom mobile app while Notion sticks to the original look with minimal changes to the user interface.

Either way, they are more than just project management apps. Now, it is entirely up to you on how you plan to manage the software using the many built-in templates.
