Microsoft Teams Features

B2B collaborative messaging Microsoft Teams is gaining ground in business. Completely integrated into the Office 365 suite, it is accessed through a dedicated application or web app (link). Officially launched at the end of 2016, Teams was not pushed by Microsoft until much later and it was not until 2018 and 2019 that the tool was pushed to replace many other home software. Things were difficult to integrate by CIOs who received sometimes contradictory information on the future of applications maintained or not by Microsoft. Example, Skype Enterprise, which had taken precedence over Lync, was then set aside in favor of Teams, while then releasing a version of Skype for Business 2019. What is certain today is that Microsoft Teams will be a staple of business communication and will bring together many services within a single interface.

In July 2019, Microsoft claims 13 million active users per day in the world of its collaborative solution, grouped in 500,000 organizations. The fact that the software is integrated into Office 365 subscriptions and that it replaces Skype are two factors behind this rapid growth. 13 million, better than the former leader Slack.

Teams functions

Very complete, Teams replaces:

  • Skype (for Business) : instant messaging and videoconferencing (like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp)
  • Sharepoint : GED, document server
  • OneDrive : file sharing
  • OneNote : note taking
  • Yammer : corporate social network
  • Planner : project and task management

Other tabs integrated into the application make it possible to link third-party tools such as Google G Suite, Salesforce, MailChimp… The advantage is therefore to have a single interface to access all these functions, instead of having an application by use or by service.

File sharing

The Microsoft Teams tool is perfect for working on files alone or simultaneously with colleagues. Your files will be stored on a SharePoint site created with the team members in question. You will therefore use SharePoint resources through Teams, transparently. These files are also accessible via the “Open in SharePoint” function to view them in a SharePoint interface. Each file cannot exceed the size of 15GB.

Deploying the Teams app

For IT administrators, the Teams admin center Policy packages will soon be available to deploy the Teams software on the IT park. However, the program is automatically installed if the user downloads Office 365 Business Premium or E3. And it starts by itself in the user’s session, even if you don’t want to use the tool.
