How to turn off Airplane mode on Windows 10 (or disable it permanently)

Airplane mode disables all wireless connections, including Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth. When you want to connect to a network, you will need to turn off Airplane mode. Here are some ways to do that on Windows 10.

Turn off Airplane mode from the notification menu

One of the quickest ways to turn off Airplane mode is to use the notifications menu option. In the Windows 10 system tray, click the “text bubble” icon to open the notifications menu.

In the list of notifications, tap an option “Flight mode to switch it toturning off. If the button is light gray, then Airplane mode is off.

Turn off Airplane mode from the Settings app

You can also turn off Airplane mode from the Settings app. Instead of navigating through several levels of the Settings app, just type “Airplane mode” in the Windows search bar and then click “Turn Airplane mode on or off” from the search results.

Airplane mode options will open in the Settings app. Under Airplane Mode, toggle the switch to Off to turn Airplane Mode off.

How to permanently disable Airplane mode

If you’re not traveling, you may want to permanently disable Airplane mode to prevent it from accidentally turning on. do not worry. This is not permanent in the sense that you can never use Airplane mode on your PC again. It only prevents you from turning on Airplane mode using the above options. However, you can run a command to re-enable the ability to turn Airplane mode on/off again later.

First, open Command Prompt as administrator by searching for Command Prompt in the Windows search bar, right-clicking Command Prompt in the search results, and then clicking Run as administrator in the context menu.

After that, run this command:

SC CONFIG RmSvc START= DISABLED

A success message will be returned if the operation was performed successfully.

Restart your Windows 10 PC for the changes to take place. Once your PC restarts, you’ll still see Airplane mode as an option in both the notifications menu and the Settings app, but you won’t be able to toggle either one to on.

If at some point you want to re-enable Airplane mode, just run this command in the command prompt:

SC CONFIG RmSvc START= AUTO

The change is instant, so you don’t need to restart your computer. You can now turn on Airplane mode again.
