Let’s check it out.

1. Direct Chat – Chat Bubbles

Chats are a major focus in Android 11. This feature allows conversations to be carried out in floating bubbles that you can navigate across your home screen and access from any app, such as Facebook Messenger.

To get this feature on any Android, you can use Direct Chat. Unlike many other chat bubble apps, Direct Chat offers you a lot of customization like dark mode, customize bubble appearance, remember last bubble position, etc.

While Android 11 only shows bubbles for chat notifications, Direct Chat sometimes shows bubbles for all types of notifications and there is no way to disable them.

2. Notification History Log

With the new Android 11, you can check the notifications that were dismissed earlier just by clicking on the “Manage notificationsBelow the notifications. Not only that, but it also includes the ability to see the content of the notification message.

You can get similar features by installing the Notification History Log app. This is a simple app that takes the “Access notifications” permission and stores all the notifications in a log like a list. Just like Android 11, it also collects all notifications from one app and that also includes message content.

The only caveat is that it doesn’t show you the account details. So it collects all emails in one package instead of collecting emails from just one account. Learn about the best apps for the newly launched Google Pixel 4A device.

3. Screen Recorder (No Ads) – Screen Recording

When it comes to inline screen recording, Android 11 is late to the party. Most OEMs like Samsung and OnePlus have already implemented their own version of screen recording features which are more advanced than what Google offers with Android 11. But if your phone doesn’t have screen recording features, I highly recommend Screen Recorder (without advertisements). Unlike many apps, you can start screen recording from the quick settings panel just like in Android 11 and even the app is clean and feels like a native app instead of a third party screen recording app.

4. Power Shade – Media Controls

One of the main changes in the Quick Settings panel is the addition of media controls in it and also the option to change the audio output from one device to another. You can get the same notification tray with the help of Power Shade app. It completely replaces the notifications and quick settings panel with the Android 11 quick settings panel along with the media controls. You need to provide a lot of permissions because it needs to change system settings like searching for Wi-Fi networks, changing brightness settings, etc. However, the app does not access any important permissions like storage and camera.

The only warning is that swiping down on the home screen doesn’t lower the notification panel quite as smoothly as the default panel. Although the problem does not affect the way you work, it is something you face every day.

5. Bouncer – Revoke Permissions

The biggest privacy feature of Android 11 is to grant one-time permissions to apps and also revoke permissions to any app if you are not using it for a long time. You can get a similar feature with the help of Bouncer app. You will receive a notification after granting the permission to any app that asks you to keep the permission or revoke the permission after use. You can just click Revoke and as soon as you close the app, the permission you have given to the app will be revoked. You can also schedule the permission from the popup notification, this will cancel the permission once the specified time is complete. You can also check out apps to add missing and useful features to your Android phone.

6. Dark Mode – Schedule custom dark mode

Although Android 10 has dark mode, you can set it to dark or light mode but you cannot schedule it to enable dark mode at night and enable light mode in the morning which is preferred by many people. Anyway, using the Dark Mode app, you can set it to dark or light mode and even set the time for switching between dark and light theme. Even though your Android 9 or older phone does not natively support dark mode, you can still get it with the help of this app. Not just system apps, this app can force dark mode on third party apps just like the original system feature.

7. Voice Access – Voice Controls

Voice control of your phone’s accessibility settings for Android 11 is now more context-aware. Instead of just using numbers, you can use the context of what you want to do and easily control your phone with it. Anyway, you can easily get the same feature using the Voice Access app from Google.
