Siri recently stopped working on my iPhone 11 and after a bit of research, I was able to fix it. However, my style wasn’t structured at all and was more than just trial and fail. That is why I have listed the steps through which you can fix Siri not working on your iPhone without wasting your time on things that do not cause the problem at all. let’s start.
If you see a screen that says “Siri is not availableThe first thing you should check is your internet connection. Unlike Google Assistant on Android, Siri does not work offline. Even simple tasks like setting an alarm need internet access.
Your iPhone may have been disconnected from Wi-Fi, if you are using cellular data then it may have run out of data on your subscription. You can also check if Airplane mode is turned off.
Swipe down from the top right corner to open Control Center and you can check if Airplane mode is on or if cellular data and Wifi are disabled.
2. If “Hey Siri” doesn’t work
All iPhones released after the iPhone 6 have the ability to listen for the keyword “Hey Siri” to speak to Siri without actually pressing the Home button or the Side button. If your iPhone is not responding to “Hey Siri”, then you should check if it is enabled in the settings.
Open the Settings app and tap onSiri and Search. Make sure to enable “Listen to “Hey Siri”. You can also enable “Allow Siri on the lock screenTo ensure that Siri will work even if the phone is locked.
“Hey Siri” does not respond when:
- Point the device down.
- Close the iPhone or iPad case cover.
- Enable “low power modeon the iPhone.
- If you’re using an iPhone 6 or earlier, or most iPads or iPod touch, and no power is connected.
3. iPhone sometimes doesn’t respond to “Hey Siri”
I have noticed that my iPhone is not responding to “Hey Siri” when it is lying down with the screen facing down. If you want your iPhone to answer “Hey Siri” even if it is upside down, you can enable the option from Settings Amenities of use.
"الإعدادات" > تسهيلات الإستخدام > Siri -> You have to enable the toggle next to “Always listen to “Hey Siri”.
4. Check Low Power Mode
On some older iPhones, Siri stops working if you put your iPhone into Low Power Mode. While newer iPhones don’t disable Siri with Low Power Mode, but if you have an older iPhone, try these steps. Disable Low Power Mode to see if Siri starts working again.
"الإعدادات" -> البطارية -> نمط الطاقة المنخفضة> وضع إيقاف التشغيل.
5. Check Siri’s language
Siri supports a lot of different languages and dialects, so if you’re not a native speaker or have a different accent, Siri may have a hard time understanding your queries. For example, if you speak with a British accent, change Siri’s language to that accent.
"الإعدادات" -> "Siri والبحث" -> اللغة.
6. Restart your iPhone
If nothing else has worked so far, restarting the iPhone won’t hurt. Sometimes, a temporary glitch can affect the system which is usually fixed by turning it off and back on again.
Press and hold the Volume Down and Side button to turn off your iPhone. Turn it back on by pressing and holding the side button.
7. Check the microphone
When the problem is not in the system, it is most likely a component issue. Check if the microphone on the iPhone is working properly. Open the Voice Notes app and record a small audio clip. If it runs correctly, then the problem is related to something else. However, if the audio sounds weird or muffled, the microphone hole is likely covered with something. Try blowing into the microphone grille on the left side of the iPhone to see if that makes any difference. Also check out How to Clean Dirty iPhone: A Step by Step Guide.
Remove screen protectors, films, or cases that cover the microphone, then ask Siri a question. If Siri doesn’t respond, connect a headset with a microphone, such as EarPods or AirPods, then ask Siri a question and wait for Siri to respond.
8. Make sure no restrictions are set for Siri
If you can’t get Siri to work on your iOS device, make sure you don’t disable Siri in Restrictions.
On iOS 12 or later, go to
"الإعدادات" > "مدة استخدام الجهاز" > "قيود المحتوى والخصوصية" > "التطبيقات المسموح بها", make sure to turn onSiri and Dictation. On iOS 11 or earlier, go to
"الإعدادات" > "عام" > "القيود".
9. Reset Siri
If Siri hasn’t started working again yet, you can try one last thing before taking your iPhone to the repair center. Try and reset all settings on your iPhone in the hope that the problem will be resolved. I understand that this is the nuclear option but it may only work.
"الإعدادات" -> عام -> إعادة تعيين -> إعادة تعيين جميع الإعدادات.
These were some of the methods you can try if Siri is not working on your iPhone. If nothing else works, your last resort is to take your iPhone to an Apple Store and they will likely have it repaired for you.
