Macs are known to “just work,” but sometimes you might encounter issues downloading apps from the Mac App Store. You may encounter files that are reported to have been downloaded despite evidence to the contrary, or encounter verification errors or other difficulties during installation.
Installing apps from the Mac App Store usually takes just a few clicks. But what happens when something goes wrong?
Whether apps fail to download, get errors while purchasing apps, or even see a blank App Store page, we’ll show you how to fix common Mac App Store problems.

1. Apps you purchased from the App Store are missing
The apps you buy from the Mac App Store are grouped into the “” section.Purchases. The apps are linked to your Apple ID, which means that if you own multiple Mac computers, you can install your apps on all of them. The apps are always available to update, and you can reinstall them whenever you want.
The Purchases page lists all apps in chronological order. You can open or install it directly from this page, but sometimes you will notice that it is lost. There are many reasons that can lead to this:
- Apple has removed the app because it is out of date or does not comply with the app review guidelines.
- The developer is no longer interested in selling the app.
- The App Store may automatically hide an app that you haven’t installed for a long time or that has compatibility issues.
When an app is hidden, you won’t be able to see it anymore in the “” section.PurchasesYou will not receive its update notifications. But you can still view these hidden apps with a little in-depth.
Open the App Store, and tap

2. Apps appearing to be installed incorrectly
The Mac App Store contains all the information about your Apple ID. It knows which account you’re using and tracks ownership of your app. Sometimes, you may encounter a problem when the App Store falsely reports that a certain app has been installed and thus will not allow you to download it.
You may also see the misleading message You have updates available for other accounts , even if you only use one Apple ID. This type of error can occur due to various reasons.
Reason 1: Cache folder problem
In this case, you have to manually clear the cache folder to fix the problem. Before proceeding with these steps, be sure to back up your Mac.
Quit the Mac App Store using a shortcut
Cmd + Q. Open Terminal and type the following command:
Press Enter and a folder will open
com.apple.appstore in Finder. Delete the contents of this folder. Restart the Mac App Store. Note that this is the system cache folder and is a temporary folder. Do not delete any files or folders here other than this directory.
If you are facing persistent verification errors or issues that do not match what is in the download state, use this method to fix the problem.
Reason 2: Beta applications on other drives
This kind of problem occurs when you install the Beta version of macOS on another partition or on an external drive. The apps you install on it are indexed by Spotlight. The index created by the system will make the Mac App Store think that a duplicate of the application is on another drive. It will refuse to download or update the app on the primary partition.
Fixing this problem is simple; You have to delete the duplicate from the app and rebuild the Spotlight index.
Open the Apple menu and select System Preferences. Choose Enter Spotlight And go to the tab Privacy.
Click plus sign at the bottom of the list. A new Finder window will open. Add a Macintosh HD (or whatever you named it) to this list and close a window”System Preferences. I also recommend logging out of your account and logging in again. Indexing of the drive will stop.
Now go to the Privacy tab and click minus sign To remove a Macintosh HD drive. Close the System Preferences window. The system will start rescanning everything on the drive, which will take some time.
Reason 3: App updates on other user accounts
If you are using a shared computer with another user account, you may encounter a similar issue. Apps you install on other accounts should not pose a problem. But if you delete the user account, the App Store will not know that you did it and you will face similar problems.
To fix this problem, follow the steps in the above section to rebuild the Spotlight index.
3. App updates or corrupted downloads
The App Store provides regular updates for both system and third-party apps. In some cases, the download does not complete and may get stuck in the middle of the process. You might see the familiar Waiting or Calculating Install Percentage message below the download progress bar.
To deal with this issue, we will look at what happens behind the scenes.
Delete cache folder
When the download starts, the App Store creates several temporary files in the cache folder. It includes a Spotlight profile, an incomplete installation file, and a PLIST file with details of the application you are downloading.
In the first step You have to clear the App Store cache folder as mentioned above. Quit the Mac App Store, open Terminal and type the following command:

com.apple.appstore in Finder. You have to delete everything inside. Next, you have to delete a folder

Delete the contents of the Updates folder
When the application download is complete, the package moves from the temporary cache folder to:
If an app crashes during installation or gets corrupted for some reason, clear the contents of this folder. Otherwise, skip this step.
Kill App Store Processes Caused
After deleting the contents of the cache folder, you will then need to kill the offending processes from the Activity Monitor. This will ensure that when you re-download the update, the processes will not stop again.
Open Activity Monitor and set its view to all processes. Type Store to search for App Store related processes, and end all these daemon processes:
- storedownloadd: Handles downloads of apps in the App Store.
- storeinstalld: Covers application installation and updates.
- storeassetd: Handles all resources and language files in the App Store.
- storeaccountd: Responsible for authentication, and acts as a bridge with your Apple ID account.
Do not open the App Store yet, because there is another step to fix this problem.
Delete the preferences file
Go to Finder and press
Cmd + Shift + G To open the box, go to the folder. Go to the following folder:

Once you have deleted all the preference files, choose

4. The App Store page is blank

We could not complete your purchase: Unknown Error. This problem occurs when updating macOS or using multiple Apple IDs.
Open both the App Store and iTunes, and make sure you’re using the same Apple ID in both apps. If you’re using two separate Apple IDs, sign out of apps, quit them, and sign in again with One Apple ID.
If you still get the same error message, you may have a problem with the iTunes Terms and Conditions. When you install an important macOS update, Apple wants you to accept the terms again. In this case, quit the apps, accept the new terms and conditions, and restart the app. You may need to restart to display the acceptance dialog prompt.
