Find out if you have 32 or 64 bit Windows

When you want to download a program or a driver, you are sometimes asked to choose between 32-bit or 64-bit platform. This information isn’t shown anywhere on the Windows Start screen, here’s how to find it.

Standard method

Keyboard method

From the Windows 8 welcome screen, press the key combination ” Windows »+« Pause “.
The “pause” key is usually found at the top right, the third next to the F12 function key, not far from “Print screen”.
Sometimes when the word “pause” is written in blue on the keyboard (for example a Dell laptop), you will have to say ” Windows »+« Fn “(Function) +” Pause »To see the screen appear.
This key combination also works with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Seven and Server versions to get the same information.


In the case of a system Windows 8 in 64 bits (the majority of cases today):

Windows 64 bits correspond to x64.

In the case of a Windows 8 in 32 bits :

Windows8 32bits x86

Windows 32 bit correspond to x86.
It is specified here that the processor is “x64”, that is to say that it is possible to install a 64-bit Windows on this machine.
