Connect Chromecast: this is how you easily connect

je Chromecast Fortunately, pairing is a snap. Are you still unsure about a certain step? Are you running into problems? This comprehensive guide will help you. We tell you how to connect the Chromecast, how to connect to WiFi and how to connect it to the television.

This is a familiar situation for many people. You bought or got a Google Chromecast and then comes the exciting part: how do you get this device to work? Linking a Chromecast falls into the category of ‘a child can do the laundry’, but you can still run into problems.

It does not matter which version of the Chromecast you use. In principle, the steps, tips and instructions below apply to all models (unless otherwise stated).

Link Chromecast

Linking a Chromecast is done quickly. The device has two aspects: a power cable and the HDMI connection. Place the HDMI connection in an available port on your television. Make sure that the port is clean and that you connect the Chromecast correctly.

Next, you need to power the Chromecast. Older models only need a single USB cable. You plug that USB cable into an available port on your television. Otherwise, you can get started with the included USB power adapter. You then plug it into a wall socket or power strip. This is the case, for example, with the Chromecast with Google TV.

Newer models, such as the Chromecast 4, a USB cable is not enough. That is why Google supplies that version with a regular plug, for example. You can therefore not use a USB port on your TV; so make sure you have an available outlet.

Now it’s time to download the Google Home app. The app is available for Android and iOS. Chances are you already have it on your smartphone or tablet, so check that first. Otherwise, look for “Google Home” in the Android or iOS download store.

You’ll need that app to complete the setup, as well as a TV to check if the connection is working. In principle, you can also connect the Chromecast via the PC, but then you still need the app for further settings. So download it in advance for your smartphone.

Now turn on the TV and switch to the HDMI channel to which you have connected the Chromecast. Check on the back – or on the side – which port the Chromecast is in. Next to the letters hdmi is also a number. That number corresponds to the HDMI channel on your television.

In principle, connecting your Chromecast does not require a television screen, but it is nice to see what happens. This way you can immediately see when the installation was successful and whether you need to take any other steps. Now we can complete the installation via the Google Home app.

Chromecast connect wifi

It is important that we connect the Chromecast to your WiFi network. Because without a WiFi network you can’t upload content cast to the device. And that’s exactly what we want to do. Open the Google Home app and tap the plus icon at the top left. Then proceed as follows.

Download and open the Google Home app

Make sure you have installed the Google Home app and open it

Choose Set up device

Then select the top option (New Device).

Also turn on your location and bluetooth.

Let Google Home search for the Chromecast.

This will take a few seconds.

Now a code appears on the screen.

That code also appears on the TV. It must match the code in the app. This is actually always the case, unless someone is setting up another Chromecast just then.

Now you can connect to the internet.

Choose the same network here that your smartphone and possibly television are also part of.

You will then automatically complete the installation by following the steps in the picture.

Link Chromecast: additional settings

In principle, you are now done with pairing your Chromecast. But you can go one step further. If you want you can add it to a specific room in the house. This is especially useful when you have multiple smart devices or Chromecasts at home. It is for your own overview.

Make sure the Chromecast has power and internet. If you just hang it behind your TV and you don’t touch it, this is always the case. Find the Chromecast within Google Home, open it and tap the gear icon. Here you will find all information about the device.

Now tap on Device Details and tap on Placement. If you don’t see that option, you need to add it (again) to your House by tapping on the correct option on this page. Select the space and you are ready to use. Change the name if necessary for easy access.

Now you can cast content to the Chromecast. A lot apps offer Chromecast support, so there is no shortage of content. Open such an app, select your media and press the Chromecast icon. Select the Chromecast you installed and let the magic continue to do its work.

You may run into problems. For example, you may have to reinstall the Chromecast or change the WiFi network. There may be a malfunction somewhere, or you run into problems while using a beamer. Anyway, there are solutions for that.
