Before we can start with cast, we need to install the Chromecast properly. To do this, download the Google Home app on your iPhone. Let’s assume that you are installing a new Chromecast. If you have already installed it, you can skip the next steps.

  1. Plug the Chromecast into the HDMI port of a TV or monitor (has a TV built-in Chromecast, then you just need to set up Wi-Fi for that device).
  2. Make sure that your iPhone is connected to the same network that you are going to connect the Chromecast to. You do this by first downloading Google Home and opening the app.
  3. Now follow the steps in the picture. You create an account or log in with an existing account and then connect to your WiFi network.
  4. Once you’ve done that, Google Home will list your home and the Chromecast devices you can set up. If not, press the plus icon at the top left of the screen. Then press the option to set up a Chromecast and follow the steps on the screen. This should not take more than a few minutes.

Chromecast iPhone: streaming content

Now that we have completed the installation, we can start streaming content. Within the Google Home app you can manage your accounts from, among others Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime and Spotify link, for example. So please log in to your accounts before continuing.

  1. Open the Google Home app and press the Media button at the top.
  2. Under the heading Manage your system you will see some options, such as Music and Video.
  3. Press Music or Video and then select a service you want to link.
  4. Press Link under the name of the service and log in with your existing account.
  5. Once logged in, close the Google Home app. Now tap on the app icon of the streaming service you have just linked (if all is well the required app is on your iPhone, otherwise you will have to download it separately).
  6. Now select a series episode, movie or anything else you want to play through your TV.
  7. A Chromecast button will now appear on your iPhone’s screen. That is a TV screen with three signals, which are shown at the bottom left. This button is usually located in the top right corner of the screen.
  8. Tap that button and then select the Chromecast you want to cast to.

At this point, the TV takes over from your iPhone or iPad. The content is played and can also be operated with the TV remote control. You can also control the content using the options on your iPhone’s screen. It’s just what you find more comfortable working.

After linking, you can also use the Chromecast with the Google Assistant. If you have a smart Google speaker at home, you can ask the voice assistant to play specific content on the newly connected Chromecast. You also have to name the service to be used.

You may run into several problems that are easy to solve. Make sure that the Chromecast and iPhone are on the same Wi-Fi network and that everything is installed correctly. Can’t find the Chromecast? There are also plenty of solutions for that.
